The Decentralized Physical Infrastructure (DePIN) project MapMetrics will leave the Solana ecosystem and move to Peak, a layer-one solution designed specifically for DePIN assets and real-world assets (RWAs).
MapMetrics is a for-profit project that rewards users with tokens and NFTs for providing anonymized live traffic and map data. Similar to the DePIN project Cell foldersThe team hopes to create a decentralized global map using Web3 technology.

Brent van der Heijden, co-founder of MapMetrics, told Blockworks that the decision was made because Peak offered a variety of standard DePin functionality.
“Peaq ID, a decentralized multi-chain machine identity, enables the network to prioritize real machines during times of high load,” Hayden said. “Standard functions, such as the DePIN data verification framework, will also help us expand our DePIN features.”
Additionally, Hayden points out that there are a few potential synergies in the broader Peak ecosystem, including with other DePINs and their enterprise partners, which may enable the team to secure new partnerships to build demand for the project.
“The Peaq community includes thousands of DePIN enthusiasts, which will help us grow, and the automated composability that comes with using the same identity standard across the ecosystem will help us leverage a device pool that has already peaked,” Hayden said.
The transition will be completed in multiple phases, starting with smart contract deployments at peak times, followed by moving the core business logic to the first layer. After that, the original mint will also be available at peak, and the option of bridging will be available to existing coin holders.
Despite MapMetric’s decision to leave the Solana ecosystem, the blockchain remains a popular home for many DePIN projects today.
