DIMO is a representative project in the DePin sector, focusing on auto data networks. The vision is to create a paid car data platform with the user’s participation: Car owners install devices connected to the OBD ports for their vehicles and download operational data – such as the site, speed, energy consumption, and diagnosis to a central network. Developers and service providers can access this network to create applications or buy data use rights. On the other hand, the owners of the participating car are receiving symbolic bonuses DIMO, embodying the concept of “data as an asset”.

On the side of the offer, DIMO has adopted a model that integrates with car devices after selling. The first users are required to purchase an officially supported vehicle, such as the Autopi Unit – which are inserted into the OBD port to collect data. These devices are priced at about 266 dollars each. Currently, DIMO supports manufactured compounds after 2008 with digital interfaces, which naturally narrow a group of potential adopters. Despite the relatively high entry barrier, DIMO has gradually built loyal users base, mainly consisted of self -auto owners and individuals who have strong interest in vehicle data and DePin. Through the efforts of these first participants, DIMO has begun to collect large real driving data and explore partnerships with automobile companies, insurance providers and application developers.
