Aerodrome, the largest decentralized exchange (DEX) based on the Ethereum Layer 2 network, reported a suspected front-end hack on Saturday, November 22. In the early hours of the weekend, the project revealed that it was investigating an attack and asked users to avoid their central domains.

Dromos Labs’ sister protocols have been hit by another DNS hijack

On Saturday, Aerodrome moved to the X social media platform a report Its ongoing investigations into DNS hijacking of its central domains. Assuring users that all smart contracts remain secure, the project asked users to access the DEX through its decentralized mirror.

For context, DNS hijacking allows an attacker or bad actor to manipulate the Domain Name System (DNS) in order to redirect users from a legitimate website to a malicious site. In essence, this compromise led to users of the original airport being redirected to a fraudulent website on Wednesday.

It appears that the problem with the decentralized exchange may be caused by its domain provider. Earlier today, Aerodrome took to Platform X to inform Web3 domain provider My.box that their infrastructure had likely been compromised and to contact them.

Base-based Aerodrome wasn’t the only decentralized exchange affected by the DNS hijack, as its sister protocol Velodrome appears to be facing a similar issue. Velodrome, the largest decentralized exchange is also on Optimism I mentioned They investigate a similar compromise for the front end.

Interestingly, this latest DNS hack comes almost two years after a similar attack affected users’ ability to access both decentralized exchanges in November 2023. Blockchain investigator ZachXBT, at the time, estimated the loss from the 2023 attack at around $100,000.

According to data from DefiLlama, about $399.17 million worth of data is locked at the airport, reflecting a roughly 4% decline since the DNS hijack. Meanwhile, Velodrome TVL Its value is approximately $49.74 million.

Aero and Velodrome will become a unified platform in 2026

The timing of this DNS attack is rather interesting, especially since Dromos Labs, the development company behind the original Airport Core and the Optimism-based Velodrome, recently revealed plans to integrate both protocols into a mall called “Aero.”

Dromos also revealed that this development will also unify the protocols’ existing tokens into the AERO token. Aero Trading Center is expected to launch first on the Ethereum mainnet and Circle’s Arc blockchain in the second quarter of 2026.
